Giovanni Cecconi

Giovanni Cecconi is an engineer, researcher, and director of the Venice Resilience Lab in Venice. His work combines engineering, ecology, sustainable development, and community building with the aim of developing resilient solutions for habitats threatened by climate change—especially for coastal and lagoon cities like Venice. He gained international recognition for his involvement in large-scale flood control and hydraulic engineering projects, including those within the context of the MOSE system. At the Venice Resilience Lab, Cecconi pursues an interdisciplinary and participatory approach: researchers, students, local stakeholders, and institutions work together on ecological restoration, climate adaptation, and socially responsible urban development. His projects range from nature-based solutions and floating structures to educational and exchange programs that combine technical knowledge with social responsibility. Cecconi's work demonstrates how sustainable development succeeds when technology, the environment, and the community are considered together.

Enriching for your class:

His projects make climate change, sustainability, and engineering thinking tangible and demonstrate how technical knowledge can be combined with social commitment and local participation.
