Hans-Peter Martin

Hans-Peter Martin is one of Europe’s best-known journalists when it comes to globalization, democracy, and power structures. He became famous through his book “The Globalization Trap,” which has been translated into 26 languages since 1996 and shaped international political debates. The book early on exposed the threat posed to democracy and prosperity by the neoliberal economic order. As a Member of the European Parliament, he repeatedly uncovered misconduct, including expense fraud and opaque lobbying practices, and advocated as a pro-European for institutional reforms. In addition, he published bestselling books on digitalization, inequality, and geopolitical change, including in 2018 “Game Over – Prosperity for a Few, Democracy for No One, Nationalism. And Then?”. His style combines in-depth analysis with journalistic clarity and a strong ethical stance. Martin highlights the growing importance of media literacy and social cohesion more than ever.

Enriching for your class:

He explains global connections in a clear and accessible way, encourages critical thinking, and powerfully demonstrates that political education cannot exist without media literacy and ethical reflection.
