Woncheon Kim

Woncheon Kim is a dedicated specialist in traditional Korean architecture and the head of Chamooree Construction. He began his career as a carpenter, training under the renowned Master Carpenter Shin Eung-soo (National Intangible Cultural Property No. 74). During this time, he took part in the restoration of some of Korea’s most important cultural heritage sites, including the UNESCO-listed Changdeokgung Palace and Gyeongbokgung Palace. Building on this traditional foundation, Woncheon Kim now focuses on adapting Hanok architecture to contemporary living. His work explores how traditional building knowledge, craftsmanship, and natural materials can be integrated into modern architecture. As a board member of the Low Carbon Wood Construction Association (LOWCA), he actively promotes sustainable, low-carbon building practices. In addition, he contributes to urban development and architectural preservation as a committee member for the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development. For Kim, architecture is not merely about constructing buildings, but about connecting the wisdom of the past with the demands of a sustainable future.
